'Of All Things I've Never Done' PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Kit Ashton: Cosmic Chancer...

Spirit of Marc Bolan inspires Kit's new single (released Monday 27th October 2008)

“Of All The Things I've Never Done” - the new single from Brighton-based
singer-songwriter Kit Ashton is out this Monday on iTunes.
The song itself, a raggedy laid-back acoustic glam foot-tapper, has flavours of Kit's main
influences (Dylan, Bowie) but is also perhaps more than a nod of tribute to the late Marc Bolan..

On one level the song's theme could be straightforwardly fun and self-deprecating, as fitting
the radio friendly boogie, but when interpreted from the point of view of a youthful Bolan
contemplating his fear of dying young the song's darker edge emerges.
Almost every line suddenly takes on a spookily biographical reference - Marc's obsessions
with literature and film, his hedonism, his pacifism, even his fear of the telephone, are all
summed up in the foreboding hook line:
“Of all the things I've never done I fear the worst is yet to not get done.”
But Kit is adamant this was not an intentional lyrical construct, despite being a massive
T-rex fan -
“Well it must've been the ghost of Marc whispering in my ear because the music
turned out quite Bolan-esque so it's pretty weird how the lyric could also be about him -
it really wasn't in my mind but there it is in black and white... we put a tree on the front cover
as a little coded reference, I hope that doesn't upset anyone!”
The legendary Marc Bolan died when a car he was a passenger in hit a tree just two
weeks before his 30th birthday in 1977. It seems the spirit of Mr. Bolan lives on and may
be haunting another young songwriter...
“Of All The Things I've Never Done” is out on iTunes Monday 27th October.
