Entering the city paved with jelly...
Just back from MIDEM...
Skint (€8 a beer!), exhausted, and somewhat brain-fried; but with an overloaded metaphorical suitcase-full of ideas, possibilities and new relationships which I will now be attempting to unpack.
If you don't know but you do care what I'm on about - my Midem trip was a promo exercise at the world's largest music trade fair and conference held in Cannes, France, and the plan was to tout the latest mixes of the new album to all those lovely music biz types that can help me along my way...
Without going into too much detail it was basically a success, though I can't say that that metaphorical suitcase contains a million Euro licensing deal or any promises of vast fame and fortune as yet.
The truth is the music world is changing and no-one, even at the highest level of the game, really knows what it is changing into or how - which puts me in a pretty wierd place as a new artist on my own start-up label.
So here I am, the baby artist entering the red-jelly landscape of the new digital market one song at a time with no guarantees - and what's new?
