So Like Costello

I'm doing it again, but this year it's Elvis Costello who I get to be obsessed with for the next few weeks...

Here's the press release blurb for my show in May:

"For one night only some of Brighton's top musical talent will perform the songs of genius and rock legend Elvis Costello, hosted by singer-songwriter Kit Ashton.

From punk-era terrier to art-minded genre tart - Elvis Costello has had one of rock's most wide-ranging and prolific careers, making him one of the most influential and popular singer/songwriters in modern music.

For the third year running Kit Ashton brings his unique form of tribute event to the Brighton Fringe, gathering an exciting line-up of top Brightonian vocalists around the songs of a legendary songwriter, backed by an amazing house band.

Guests include:
Paul Steel, Stuart Flynn , Glen Richardson (Brighton Beach Boys), Ralph Brown (yes, the actor!), Felicity Birch, Jordan Smith (Xcerts), and Kit Ashton himself.
The brilliant jazz pianist Mark Edwards will also make a guest appearance.

And as if that wasn't enough to excite you...

'So Like Costello' will be preceded at 7:45pm by the world-premier of the short animated movie 'April & I', based on the mini-album by Paul Steel. It features the work of 10 different up and coming animators each exploring new innovative ways of animating to music.

After the acclaimed successes of 'Praise Bob' (Bob Dylan, 2007) and 'Want Rufus' (Rufus Wainwright, 2008), 'So Like Costello' promises to be an evening of pure musical indulgence and a real festival highlight."
